Residents of Odi-Olowo Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Mushin, Lagos, have been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of Hon. Zainab Shotayo, the Council’s Chief Whip.
Hon. Shotayo, who represented Ward C3, was the only female councillor in the LCDA and also the youngest, aged just 30. Her death has sent shockwaves across the Mushin political landscape, cutting short a promising career that had inspired many young women in grassroots politics.
Described by colleagues and constituents as vibrant, hardworking, and dedicated to service, Shotayo had carved a unique space for herself in local governance and was seen as a rising political figure in Lagos.
Residents of Ward C3 expressed deep sorrow over her passing, noting that she had been a strong voice for the youth and women in the council. “We have lost not just a leader, but a sister who truly represented us,” one community member said.
The cause of her death had not been made public at the time of filing this report.
Her passing marks yet another tragic loss for the Mushin and Odi-Olowo Ojuwoye community, where political stakeholders and residents alike have begun to pour out tributes.
