There was panic in Ibadan on Wednesday morning after gunmen reportedly abducted the younger sister of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, alongside her twin sons.
According to reports, the victims — Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul and her 12-year-old twin boys, Peter and Paul — were kidnapped around 7:30 a.m. in the Challenge/Elewura area of Ibadan while she was reportedly taking the children to school.
The family confirmed the incident through Adelabu’s media aide, Femi Awogboro, stating that security agencies had already swung into action to rescue the victims and track down the kidnappers.
Reports indicate that Mrs. John-Paul, aged 43, recently retired from First Bank Pension Custodian after previously serving at the Central Bank of Nigeria. She had relocated to Ibadan with her children and was reportedly preparing to join her husband in the United States.
Eyewitness accounts revealed that the armed men intercepted the victims’ vehicle before whisking them away to an unknown destination, creating fear and tension within the area.
The family appealed to the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information that could jeopardize rescue operations. They also called on anyone with useful information to assist security agencies investigating the incident.
The incident has once again raised serious concerns over insecurity and rising cases of kidnapping in Oyo State and across Nigeria.
As of the time of filing this report, security operatives were said to be intensifying efforts to ensure the safe release of the victims.
